The Artillerist.
Taking aim at tomorrow’s great artists.

An independent art publication: practical guides, buying guides, artist spotlights and resources. The site had to make a growing library easy to explore and easy to come back to.

What the site needed to do

The Artillerist publishes practical guidance for working artists: how to announce commissions, how to choose fonts that work together, what to buy and why, alongside artist spotlights and resources. A publication lives or dies on whether readers find the next article, so the structure mattered as much as the look.

What Montoya Media did

  • A content architecture with clear sections, Guides, Buying Guides, Artist Spotlights and Resources, each with its own landing page
  • A home page that leads with an editor's pick and a short grid of recent pieces, each with its section, date and reading time
  • Article templates designed for long reads: generous measure, clear headings, and related pieces at the end
  • Site search and an on-page assistant so readers can ask for what they need
  • Newsletter sign-up placed where readers finish an article, not in a pop-up
  • Semantic HTML, accessible navigation and descriptive titles so each guide can be found for the question it answers

What is notable in the result

A deep and growing library that still feels organised: every article belongs somewhere, and every page points to the next one. Everything described here is visible on the live site.

Publishing more than your site can organise?

Content-led sites need structure first. That is where the conversation starts.
